How it all started
DigBI Consulting® was founded in 2022 by Lee Derks, who saw a growing need for honest, accessible business intelligence consulting, especially among organizations underserved by traditional providers. What started as a small consultancy rooted in decades of cross-industry experience has grown into a trusted partner for clients in healthcare, insurance, retail, and faith-based sectors. From the beginning, DigBI has stood apart through its values-driven approach: high-touch service, tailored strategies, and a team that treats each engagement as its own. As we grow, we remain committed to making data approachable, purposeful, and for good.
Our Founders
Lee Derks
Lee began his career early, volunteering at age 14 to build the first intranet at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque. He served in government roles at the Air Force Research Laboratories, NASA, Langley, and the Department of Energy before broadening his expertise across industries, including finance, healthcare, retail, and engineering.
Throughout his career, Lee dreamed of building a company rooted in trust, service, and impact—a place where data could be used not just for insight but for good. In 2022, that dream became a reality when he and his wife, Penny, founded DigBI Consulting®, helping purpose-driven organizations turn complex data into clear, actionable results. His leadership was recognized in 2025 when he was named a Coalesce G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time Transformer), a distinguished award honoring top partners in data transformation.
Penny Derks
Penny is a co-founder of DigBI Consulting® and brings a global perspective shaped by her early life in Changchun, China, and her immigration to the United States in 2000. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Renmin University and an MBA in Accounting and Management Information Systems.
Her professional experience spans retail and healthcare, where she has led initiatives in program management, financial analysis, Salesforce development, and data analytics.
